Mole Removal

Mole removal in Singapore

Everyone has moles on their skin. Some are born with them, some appear later in life. Most of the time, we ignore them because they do not give problems. Concerns arise when they appear on our face, especially when the moles are big or protruding, because they are unsightly. After all, face is the first thing we are drawn to when we see a person.

What causes moles?

Genetic determines the number of moles a person has. An individual with a large number of moles, i.e. more than 100, is at an increased risk of developing skin cancer.

Sun exposure plays an important role in the development of moles. But these moles tend to appear later in life. Therefore it is important to apply sun screen before getting exposed to sun.

I don’t like the mole on my cheek. Can I have it removed?

Yes*. Moles can be removed either by radiofrequency ablation or surgical excision depending on the character of the mole. Some moles can be removed by laser but more than 1 session is usually required. Mole removal takes 5 to 10 minutes and can be done on the same visit. It is important to get it assessed by a doctor to get the right diagnosis, and to recommend the best removal technique. Generally, we remove a mole that:

- bothers you

- you find unattractive

- could be a skin cancer

How do I tell a mole from a skin cancer (melanoma)?

Melanoma typically changes in terms of size and colour. You can use the rule of ABCDE to monitor any moles you have.

Asymmetry: A mole that is not symmetrical

Border: A mole that does not have well defined border

Colour: A mole that darkens over a short period of time

Diameter: A mole larger than ¼ inch in diameter, or growing in size quickly

Elevation: A mole that is raised above the skin with rough surface

If your mole has any of these characters, consult a doctor immediately

Painful*?

Pain is minimal. A numbing injection is given before the procedure. With laser removal, a numbing cream is applied to the treated area before treatment.

Will there be a scar?

Depending on the depth of the mole and the type of removal technique, there may be a faint scar. If the mole has deep roots, we can minimize scarring by removing the mole over 2 to 3 sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart.*

What happens after the procedure?

A scab will form over the removal area. Do not worry. It will fall off after 1 to 2 weeks when your new fresh skin grows underneath. Do not remove the scab forcefully. If your mole is very big and stitching is required, you will be asked to return to have the stitches removed in 2 weeks.*

Any complications?

Mole removal is safe. Sometimes, there may be mild bleeding during the procedure but it can be stopped easily. You may experience redness or itching over the mole removal area that will go away in a few days. Infection is very rare.

Mole removal is quick and safe, and can be done on the same day visit!

Hi doctor, I just got my moles removed by you recently, but forgot to ask you if there was any risk of them turning into melanoma. Just a little paranoid here, but did you check before you removed them? Thanks.
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Removal of a mole does not turn it into melanoma. We do a visual assessment of all moles before removing them.

Hi Doctor, I'd done mole removal last November at your clinic for my mole under my left eye. However, a mole reappeared right after the scab fell, and it is the size of the scab (which is bigger than the original mole). I'll like to know if I am to do another mole removal, will the mole return again? Thanks!
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, it is possible. Risk of mole recurrence is higher for you since it has happened once already.

Hi is it possible that eczema will be caused as a result of mole removal?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

If you have eczema, any skin procedures done on you may potentially trigger an eczema flare. It does not cause an eczema.

Hi Doctor, will the surgery be done on the day of consultation after appointment is made?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is usually done on the same day visit, unless an excision is required, in which case another appointment may have to be made for the procedure.

Hi Doctor, will payment usually be done by cash or card?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Cash, nets, credit cards.

HI, My son is 11 years old. have about 3 mole on the face I would like to remove Do you suggest I wait till his bigger or can do it now?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Most children cannot tolerate the procedure so well. I suggest he gets it done when he is older. Otherwise, he may get upset by the procedure. Also, mole recurrence is more common in children.

Hi doctor, So at what age would a person be able to tolerate the procedure well and at what age would there be a lower chance of mole recurrence?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

I suggest at least 18 years of age to tolerate procedure better. Generally, based on observation, we find that clients above 25 years of age have lower recurrence.

Hi doctor, what are the chances of mole recurrence for a 20 year old male?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is not possible to give you an answer to this question. It depends on what kind of mole you have, size etc.

Hi, is it normal if the scab fall off on its own just 5 days after mole removal? i'm afraid there will be a scar as it looks like it has not fully heal. will applying the gel help? thanks!
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Everyone heals at different speed. If the wound looks like it has not completely healed, the scab has probably fallen off prematurely. Apply recovery cream for another week. If scarring is a concern, you can get silicone cream from our clinic to apply 1 week from now, continuously for the next 3 months.

How much does the silicone cream cost? Can I just walk in to buy it? Thanks!
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Please call us at 62350338 for the pricing.

Hi, Would just like to check if it is $120 for each session if it requires several sessions?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

1 session is usually sufficient.

but if it requires several sessions. It will be charged $120 per session?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

This is case by case basis.

Hi Doctor, previously I had a round, small (about 3mm in diameter) and slightly raised mole on my cheek and I had it removed with laser about 2 years ago in another clinic. The mole grew back after a couple of months and the size is a bit larger, no longer round, but flattened but I didn't do anything about it until now. I was told that to completely remove it without risking it appearing again, it is better to do excision than doing another laser treatment on it, is that true? What is the cost for the excision procedure?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Risk of mole recurrence is lower with excision. If you wish to know the charges for mole excision, please drop us an email at [email protected] or call us at 62350338.

Hi Doctor, for a mole that is less than 5mm in size, can i request for the mole removal process to be excision?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, you can.

Hi Doctor, Is excision the preferred method as compared to laser treatment? Since there are many articles that do not support the use of laser for mole removal. Thank you.
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

There is no "preferred method". You need to get the mole assessed by a doctor to determine the best method to remove it.

Hi, may i ask the price stated on the website for mole removal is $120, is it regarding of the size of the mole?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

That is for <5mm. Best to come in to let us assess your mole.

Hi doctor, I have around 3-5 flat moles on my face, how much will it cost to remove it? Also, what if it takes 2 session to remove the mole? Will you charge another $120?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture
