Mole Removal

Mole removal in Singapore

Everyone has moles on their skin. Some are born with them, some appear later in life. Most of the time, we ignore them because they do not give problems. Concerns arise when they appear on our face, especially when the moles are big or protruding, because they are unsightly. After all, face is the first thing we are drawn to when we see a person.

What causes moles?

Genetic determines the number of moles a person has. An individual with a large number of moles, i.e. more than 100, is at an increased risk of developing skin cancer.

Sun exposure plays an important role in the development of moles. But these moles tend to appear later in life. Therefore it is important to apply sun screen before getting exposed to sun.

I don’t like the mole on my cheek. Can I have it removed?

Yes*. Moles can be removed either by radiofrequency ablation or surgical excision depending on the character of the mole. Some moles can be removed by laser but more than 1 session is usually required. Mole removal takes 5 to 10 minutes and can be done on the same visit. It is important to get it assessed by a doctor to get the right diagnosis, and to recommend the best removal technique. Generally, we remove a mole that:

- bothers you

- you find unattractive

- could be a skin cancer

How do I tell a mole from a skin cancer (melanoma)?

Melanoma typically changes in terms of size and colour. You can use the rule of ABCDE to monitor any moles you have.

Asymmetry: A mole that is not symmetrical

Border: A mole that does not have well defined border

Colour: A mole that darkens over a short period of time

Diameter: A mole larger than ¼ inch in diameter, or growing in size quickly

Elevation: A mole that is raised above the skin with rough surface

If your mole has any of these characters, consult a doctor immediately

Painful*?

Pain is minimal. A numbing injection is given before the procedure. With laser removal, a numbing cream is applied to the treated area before treatment.

Will there be a scar?

Depending on the depth of the mole and the type of removal technique, there may be a faint scar. If the mole has deep roots, we can minimize scarring by removing the mole over 2 to 3 sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart.*

What happens after the procedure?

A scab will form over the removal area. Do not worry. It will fall off after 1 to 2 weeks when your new fresh skin grows underneath. Do not remove the scab forcefully. If your mole is very big and stitching is required, you will be asked to return to have the stitches removed in 2 weeks.*

Any complications?

Mole removal is safe. Sometimes, there may be mild bleeding during the procedure but it can be stopped easily. You may experience redness or itching over the mole removal area that will go away in a few days. Infection is very rare.

Mole removal is quick and safe, and can be done on the same day visit!

Will the method of using laser to remove mole leave scar?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Possible, especially if the mole is big.

Hi Doctor, I had a mole removed at your clinic 3 weeks ago, the mole is no longer protruding but the area where the mole was had darkened to almost the same colour as the mole previously. Is it normal? Thank you
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Hi there. For big protruding moles, it is quite common for the healed wound to appear reddish/pinkish/brownish at the early stage. Give it some time and it will fade. If it is bothering you, it is possible to lighten it with a different type of laser treatment.

Hi i have a huge mole on my scalp (it is elevated and about the size of a pinky tip) that scabs and bleeds sometimes when i pick at it. Do i need to shave my hair around the mole during mole removal?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is not necessary to shave your hair around it for the removal procedure. It is best to come in to let us take a look at the mole so we can discuss the best way to remove it. https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

Hi Doc, will it be possible for you to share a rough estimation of the cost difference if there are more than 1 mole to be removed? I have asked so that I could do some planning before actually coming in to have my mole removed, thanks.
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Hi there. Please call 62350338 or contact us here for pricing : https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

hi,i have a mole which is within my eyelid where my eyelashes grow.will it be safe to remove it ?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, it is safe as long as you are able to stay still during the procedure. Also, the procedure may temporarily remove some eye lashes if the mole is at where your eye lashes are. They will grow back.

Hi have a big mole on the eyebrow. Likely require multiple sessions to remove I reckon. But how about scarring and if my eyebrow will grow at the area where the mole is removed.
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Whether or not multiple session is required, we can only tell after we assess it visually. All mole removal procedure can potentially leave a scar. Mole removal procedure will not affect the eye brow growth unless excision is done.

Hi Dr. Sii, I have a protruding mole on my chin. It was flat but became protruding over 6-8 years. Since it appeared, it has been 9 years now. May I know, what are the treatments available. How fade will the scar be overtime if the mole is removed? How long does it take usually to become fade over time? Also, can the consultation and mole removal process be done on the same day? Thank you.
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Hi there. Protruding moles can be removed with radiofrequency ablation or excision. Removal of a protruding mole will usually leave a scar, which can take a few months to fade. Imagine squeezing out a huge pimple that leaves a scar (discolouration), that takes few months to fade. Consultation and procedure can be done on the same day visit. You can call 62350338 or email us at [email protected] to book an appointment with us.

Will removing moles cause cancer?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

The answer is no. Removing moles does not cause skin cancer.

Hi Dr. Sii, may I know which clinic you stationed at?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

I am based at Scotts clinic. You can find the location here : https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

Dear doctor, I have previously done mole removal on a slightly large (approx 0.4mm) mole but there is scarring + smaller mole left on it now. Can this be removed and how much does it cost?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, it can be removed. For pricing, please call 62350338 or contact us here https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

Hi, I had a mole on my face which was protruding. I did a laser treatment around 2 years ago. The mole was round in size and now, it seems to be coming back again. However, the new 'mole' isnt round anymore. It's like a few parts seems to be removed andthe rest is coming back. A few dots here and there. (Am I making any sense?) And now, my skin seems to be have a bump at where the mole used to be. Is there any solutions? Thanks (:
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Looks like your mole may be growing back. The best solution is to remove it again.

Hi doctor, will mole removal cause more moles to form in the future?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

The answer is no.

Is it normal for moles to be removed to come back?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Regardless of the method of removal, there is a small chance that the mole may come back.

What will be the preferred type of mole removal for a mole that is less than 5mm in size?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

The mole needs to be assessed in order for us to advise you appropriately. Of course it will depend on how the mole looks like, and whether or not there is any suspicion of skin cancer.

Hi doctor, is there a required age for mole removal to be safe?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Please note that legal age to give consent is 21 in Singapore.

Hi I got a 2 mole removals in May 2016, 1 of them i slightly reoccurring again, and I know that going back to touch up is free of charge within 6 months right? Im thinking of going back for the retouch but if I get 1 touch up done in July, and if it reoccurs again, can I get another touch up in September/October? Since its still within the 6 months? Thank you very much! :)
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is best to let us assess your mole first before doing anything. Standard charges apply.

Hi doctor. Was wondering if your clinic does shave excision for raised moles, rather than normal excision which requires stitching and hence results in some scarring?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, we do.

hi , I have 2 flat moles on my face which are less than 0.5CM , may I know how much will it cost ?

Hi doctor, is it possible for me to have my moles remove while i'm on roaccutane? Also, if I were to have my moles removed via the laser method, will my skin at the treated areas be even more sensitive to sunlight etc when they're fully healed. Lastly, can you check and guarantee if my moles are benign/ non-cancerous spots before proceeding w the laser removal? Sorry for asking so many qns, just want to make sure before I make my decision. Thanks!
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Yes, it is possible. Treated area is definitely more sensitive to sunlight during the healing process regardless of whether you are on roaccutane or not. After it has fully recovered (which is usually about 1 week), the treated area would be similar to your other normal skin area. We will always do a visual assessment of the mole before removing it. If it looks suspicious, we will remove and send it to the lab for evaluation. The only way to accurately diagnose a skin cancer is a lab histological evaluation.

I have an ingrown mole about 1cm in diameter. When I pinch it I can feel that it is in the skin, instead of normal moles where they are on the surface of the skin only. Would excision be necessary? How much would it be? Are your prices quoted subject to gst?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is best to let us assess your mole first. Based on your description, your mole may have to be removed with a more invasive method, i.e. excision. For pricing, please call 62350338 or contact us here https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

Hi. I had a mole removal done early last year at another clinic. It came back and I am considering to have another removal done by you. But, the area(skin) where the mole is raised. I was wondering if I did the removal, would the area became flat (like the rest of my face)? Or would there always be a bump?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

It is best to let us take a look at the mole area on your face first. Most raised mole can be flattened. However, sometimes it can be challenging to flatten it to your surrounding normal skin level. https://skinaesthetics.sg/contact

Hi doctor, I am very afraid of needles. Will the local anaesthesia jab to the face before the mole removal be painful? Is there any other ways to numb the area that I want my moles removed?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Local anaesthesia can be a little painful to some people. Alternatively, we can use numbing cream. However, numbing cream only works for tiny moles.

Hi doctor, Is it possible to request for my mole to be diagnosed in the lab before removal, regardless whether the mole looks suspicious or not?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Of course it is possible. We can send it to the lab upon your request.

Hi doctor, What are the risks associated with mole removal?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

Risks can be discussed in the clinic. You can call 62350338 to arrange an appointment.

Hi doctor, I'm quite afraid of melanoma. Will mole removal for non-cancerous moles cause any form of melanoma?
Dr Sii Sik Liong's picture

No, it will not.
